Monk Painting

This painting, located in Virginia where I saw it in person, encapsulates a sorrowful tone that is quite hard to capture in writing. His eyes are the root of the dreariness, the visual focal point of the image. It feels very intense in the room of the museum because of its size and horizontal shape. This painting was completed in the mid 1800s by Gustave Doré. One internet user commented on a Reddit thread about this work (anonymously), "It says a lot about life and what dreams we're willing to let slide for a secure lifestyle."

"Singin' In The Rain" = GOAT

Dude..... This movie rules. I watched it two days ago and I just get into this blissful headspace for days after I watch it. It's so, so special to me and reminds me of my childhood and my family in a really warm, distinct way. I rated it a 5/5 on Letterboxd, duh. The timing is just so insane, I have never seen a more perfectly timed movie when it comes to the choreography and the music. On top of that, the way the writers toed the line between a blissful, escapist understanding of the world and the actual reality of the 1930s is so interesting to me!! For instance, the scene of Gene Kelly in New York City with all the hand-painted set pieces surrounding him in the big restaurant? Wow, it's really bewildering! Like, they could've done a colder, more realistic depiction of the change from silent films to talkies, but the writers and producers understood that this type of depiction would not properly encapsulate the world of movies and how much the Technicolour element of the film was capturing just how magical movie-making really is! It really just blows my mind everytime. The collaboration that must have had to happen to put all the pieces of this movie together really demonstrates how movies back then were done so intensely, idk. It's awesome. I love it. Gonna watch it again.

Goals for my site!

I'm envisioning a place where I can come to for creative inspiration (d.i.y./crafting ideas), for a list of my current projects or wishlists, a base archive of all my physical media, a humorous list of art/movie reviews, and a place where I can log my thoughts for online friends and irl friends.

I'm hoping to foster some creative-minded community here and find other websites that are trying to do the same without using Insta/Pinterest/etc. Social media has actually proven to be very isolative for me, rather than bringing me together with my friends, tbh!! I hope to share in some art here overall, but also provide a space, firstly for me, to unwind.
